What is LobFile?

LobFile is a purpose-built file hosting and sharing platform. Upload a file, get a direct link, and share it anywhere - forums, Discord, email, your own website, or integrated directly into your apps via the API. Every file gets its own unique URL and stays up indefinitely as long as your account is in good standing.

Unlike general-purpose cloud storage, LobFile is optimized for sharing. You get download counters, last-download timestamps, a full file management library, and a global CDN behind every link - all without installing proprietary software or sitting through ads.

LobFile started life in 2015 under the name Lithiio. What began as a private tool for a handful of friends grew into a public service after early users made clear there was a real appetite for a clean, no-nonsense file host. It was renamed to LobFile in December 2021 and has served over 100 million files since.

Why use LobFile?

No software to install

Most file hosts push you toward their branded desktop app or browser extension. LobFile works with anything - a simple HTTP POST from the command line, ShareX, your own custom script, or the dashboard in your browser. You are never locked into a single upload tool, and the API is free to use on every account.

No ads, no data selling

Popular hosts cover their pages in ads and track activity to sell to third parties. LobFile doesn't. The service is funded entirely by optional paid plans, so there is no incentive to monetize your data or your visitors' attention.

Your files, unmodified

Many hosts re-encode images, transcode video, or stamp watermarks on content to cut their own storage costs or assert ownership. LobFile stores and delivers your files exactly as uploaded - byte for byte. This matters for photographers, designers, audio engineers, and anyone where fidelity is non-negotiable.

The story so far

LobFile started as a weekend project built for myself and a few friends who wanted a cleaner way to share files. Registration opened to the public in July 2016 after it became obvious people were genuinely looking for exactly this kind of service.

Every feature on the site was added in my free time, driven by real feedback from real users. The technical challenges that came with scaling a file host to the public pushed my skills in ways I hadn't anticipated - and that's half the reason I kept going. Working on LobFile is still one of my favorite things to do.

LobFile.com is the primary domain. Official mirror domains are lithi.io and lithi.pw. Looking for more detail? Check out the FAQ.
